After leaving Dingle, we stopped at the South Pole Inn for an Irish Coffee. It was owned by Tom Crean. He was an Antarctic Explorer, having gone there 3 times, 1906, 1910 and 1914. He rescued many people. His ship became icebound and he and some other men, walked 20 miles in treacherous weather over mountains to reach civilization. They were able to bring help and saved 18 men. He was from the area, after retirement in 1920, he returned here, married and opened the pub. He lived til 1966.
Love the sayings, especially the 2nd one
